Zacarías & Fernández is a law firm highly specialized in all areas of Intellectual Property. As a policy of the firm and in order to avoid conflicts of interest situations, as a general rule we only represent foreign clients. Our firm is able to work in six languages (Spanish, English, Portuguese, German, French and Italian). The firm has been recently very active in counseling as far as the enactment of the new Intellectual Property laws in Paraguay in accordance to the TRIPS Agreement, and is sponsoring the creation at the governmental level of the National Institute of Intellectual Property to be instrumented in Paraguay after the Peruvian model but with own features. We have been selected by the United Nations to serve as a Consultant to the Paraguayan government in the field of Intellectual Property (administrative, legislative and judicial areas). Our office is active in many local and international organizations relevant to our profession. The firm is concerned, not only about the excellence of the practice of law within our specialty, but also regarding the gremial aspects of our profession, and therefore we have represented the Paraguayan Bar Association before many international events. We are also committed to the divulgation of the importance of Intellectual Property and consequently, we organize various seminars regarding the subject. In December of 1996, with other distinguished colleagues of our country, we formed the Paraguayan National Group of AIPPI. We are openly committed to the divulgation of Intellectual Property law and therefore many attorneys of our firm are teaching in prestigious law schools of our country. Presently, we are representing the United States Government in the patent area and recently we have been designated by our government as adviser of the Paraguayan national delegation negotiating the Free Trade of the Americas Treaty (FTAA) in the field of Intellectual Property.
